How are Mega-bus and Greyhound - safety-wise and travel-wise?
I wil be attending a school in Northern Kentucky come January and since I don't have a car I'm fixing to take the bus...It'd be closer for me to go to Cincinnati, OH than to Lexington for a bus terminal... So this would be a trip from Cincinnati to Ashtabula (northeastern Ohio) which is about 5,6,7 hours depending on other stops...I don't have much experience on long travel buses - so how are Mega-bus and Greyhound Buses' safety, and just the experience in general and all that? I don't need it to be great but just safe and cheap enough to get me to where I need to go....I'll be taking this lil jaunt about every 6 weeks so hopefully it won't be too awful...

i've only been on the grey hound bus a couple times. overall it's pretty safe, just make sure you have head phones on at ALL times, pretend you're sleeping or whatnot. cause the last time i was on one from st. louis to chicago, a 6 hour bus ride some dood was talking to me the whole time and wouldn't shut up. he smelled and he was telling me that he just got out of prison and going home to see his kids. he wanted to be friends and asked for my number and everything. i tried to pretend i was sleeping but he just kept on talking. yeah, that was the last time i ever went on a bus. so, unless you're with someone you know, or just leave your music playing then i guess it's safe overall. good luck~!!

I know that Greyhound doesn't attract the best clientele and that must Greyhound stations are in very rough neighborhoods. Remember bus carriers don't check passengers for weapons before boarding like the airlines do.

My children (ages 17 and 12) took a Greyhound bus from Charlotte, NC to Lexington, KY and back this past summer. My son (the 17-year-old) said it was OK - boring, of course, but not too bad. He said, though, there were some people on the bus that got kicked off when he reported them for smoking on the bus. He thought they were pretty creepy and was glad they were kicked off. I know of a HS-age girl (18 now) that has an obsession with hand-sanitizer because of something that happened to HER on a Grey-Hound bus several years ago. A man started to lick her hand. Another passenger saw, reported it and he, too, was kicked off - right in the middle of nowhere. You can take that as you will. I don't know anything about the other company you mentioned.

you are lucky not to travel like 72 H or more traveling by Greyhound is a pain in the ass, they stop a lot where they want to I mean where the driver wants to and they feel like they are the bosses and can give you orders, you have to eat what driver feels like and sometimes they pick up their lovers to get companion you know but, other than that they are pretty much safe I guess so, y you where traveling more than 73 h like I did you might erase your middle ass mark and is really boring, is more fun to travel by train even if you get coach seat which is cheaper but, you have freedom to walk in the different cars, get a snack, play cards, watch a movie etc, etc.
5 :
If there is anyway at all you can take the train (Amtrak), do it. It's your best bet, and its far more pleasant. If that is not an option for you, just take steps to keep yourself safe. On the bus, sit towards the front half. Choose who your seatmate is if you have to share a seat, you can do this by sitting next to someone who seems okay to you as you get on, or by taking an empty seat, keeping your belongings in the seat next to you, and as the bus fills up, only move them as you see people that are potential seatmates get on. At stops, keep your belongings with you, and dont seclude yourself anywhere. A 6 hour ride wont be too bad, just bring some music and magazines along. There usually isn;t much room to set up a laptop on a bus.

About 25th wedding anniversary in April. Where is a good travel location
25th wedding anniversary in April. Where is a good travel location?
I am disabled and not able to walk very far. I'm allergic to the sun also but hubby being from Costa Rica hates the cold. Anyway, my dream has always been Bermuda but we only have about $1,000 to work with here for about 3 days. I would like to go somewhere outside the USA. We are not willing to travel to Asia, Middle East, etc. We will be flying out of either Chicago or Lexington,KY. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I would go to Canada. I know it won't be warm, but it also won't cost a fortune! You could also go to Mexico. Small homey towns that won't rape your pocketbook! Check with a travel agent. "T" Last I checked Florida isn't out of the USA!

Destin, FL absolutely GORGEOUS!!!

You may try going on a Free Cruise from one of those Vacation Timeshare companies. Caution use only if you and your spouse have good resistance to sales pressure, because they will do everything in their power to get you to buy. Definitely SPRING for both St Louis, MO and Lexington, KY ~~ In St. Louis you’ll find more free, major attractions than anyplace outside the nation’s capital. TravelSmart, the nation’s oldest consumer travel newsletter, named St. Louis one of its 10 Safest, Culturally Most Fascinating Cities in the U.S. for its diverse cultural and tourism activities. This year, the Gateway Arch continues the celebration of its 40th anniversary. Celebrate with St Louis by taking a tram ride to the top of the Arch, (you must like being enclosed in a clothes dryer though) Watching the movie about the monument’s construction on a giant screen. Visit the Museum of Westward Expansion – underground, below the Arch – and enjoy special events on the grounds of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. Beyond the Arch, visitors will see a new energy in downtown St. Louis. Masses of money has been spent on projects including new entertainment districts, casinos, loft condos and scores of new restaurants, retailers and hotels in renovated historic buildings. http://www.explorestlouis.com/ ~~ Lexington (although in 2005 it was ranked the Worst City for Spring Allergies) it is beautiful there in Spring. The Blue Grass is greener, everything is in flower and the horses are friskier! http://www.visitlex.com/

About Please give me some ideas as to stuff to do with kids in Lexington Kentucky on a Saturday afternoon & evening
Please give me some ideas as to stuff to do with kids in Lexington Kentucky on a Saturday afternoon & evening?
I will be traveling to Lexington on Saturday, June 21st. I have 4 kids ranging in age from 4-8. My travel companion has 4 kids ages 2-10. We are looking for some things to do with the kids. Stuff like zoos, parks, carnivals, amusement parks and children's museums are favorable. Money is not a huge issue, but of course cheaper is better. Also, what is a good, kid-friendly hotel to stay in?

Things to do... -Several great city park pools (Southland and Woodland Parks specifically) are cheap, but will be crowded because they are so popular -Lexington Children's Museum http://www.explorium.com/ -Two city "nature" parks (McConnell Springs Nature Center and Raven Run Nature Sanctuary) as well as the University's Arboretum http://www.lfucg.com/parks/mcconnell.asp http://www.lfucg.com/parks/raven.asp http://www.ca.uky.edu/arboretum/ -The Kentuck Horse Park (link includes daily activities list) http://www.kyhorsepark.com/sub.php?pageid=36§ionid=2 -Local horse farms, distillery/farms, and Toyota all offer local tours -Lots of movie theaters. -If you're a reader, you must check out Joseph-Beth Booksellers. Huge selection, kids reading program, and a cafe with an outdoor patio overlooking a pond with ducks, geese, and fish. Nice place to take the kids on a spring day. On June 21 the bookstore is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Corduroy Bear series from 11-1; it's free and Corduroy is scheduled to be there. http://www.josephbeth.com/Default.aspx?tabindex=4&tabid=154&storeId=1 Places to eat... -Lexingtonians love to eat out! Most places happily welcome kids. I don't think anyone has a kids free night on Saturdays. Because we love to eat out, it's not unusual for there to be a wate at most restaurants on a Saturday. Definately call ahead with a large party like yours. Places to stay... -Most chain hotels are accepting of kids. I haven't been to the Holiday Inn in many years, but as a kid I used to love having out of town relatives stay there so that we could visit the Holidome: an indoor center with a pool, whirlpool, sauna, shuffle board, exercise facilities, ping pong, virtual reality electronic games, outdoor sand volleyball and indoor basketball; not sure if they still have indoor putt-putt. This hotel is close to the I-75/I-64 interchange. http://hilexingtonnorth.com/ Our summer so far has been hazy, hot, and humid, dress lightly. But we've also had some big storms this week, so be prepared for that too (temps, dropped 20 degrees in less than an hour this afternoon). General Info: http://www.visitlex.com/
