Fun, exciting, romantic things to do in Lexington, Ky?
Boyfriend, two friends of mine and myself will be traveling from florida to lexington, ky for my boyfriends tryouts in december...we are looking at staying downtown which my friend is figuring out due to her working in the hotel business she can get good deals...the thing is i haven't been up that way since i was a little girl and i really don't remember what all there is to do...any suggetions on things to see, places to go or just anything would be helpful as we are gonna be up there for 6 days.

You can tour the thoroughbred horse farms, go to the Kentucky Horse Park and take a carriage ride, and visit historical homes like Henry Clay's and Mary Todd Lincoln's. The Horse Park has a big Christmas light display in December.

lmao, this is Ken-tuck, there's nothing exciting to do up there unless you're middle-aged or older :P, unless you want to take a trip to King's Island, which is far from where you're going, in Ohio. I'd recommend enjoying the nature there, to me, that's romantic enough. Go on a hike. Be original.

Is there a website that can tell me the exact half-way point between two cities?
For example if you were travelling from Richmond, VA to Lexington, KY...I need a website that would tell you at what point along your journey you would be half-way? Thanks! half-way by driving time and to the nearest city/town.

The latest versions of Google Maps and others allow you to put additional route points on or after an established route by clicking on the map. The best I could suggest is clicking on a likely point near the route and seeing what the route says about distance. In Google Earth, you can use the ruler and pull a straightline distance, then divide that mentally in half and move the end marker to that distance. Among the problems are: Halfway by distance or by driving time? Nearest city or town or just a place on the highway?

It is 260 miles from Bay City to Cincinatti and another 90 miles from Cincinatti to Lexington. If you leave Bay City at 10 a.m., what time do you arrive in Lexington? 350 miles / 70 mph = 5 hours. 10 a.m. + 5 hours = 3 p.m. However 3 p.m. is incorrect. How is this so?

I know to get the AirTrain to Jamaica Station and then the 6 train to 53rd Street - If I get off the subway at 53rd Street, can i transfer by escalator or do I have to go to the street and walk from there - I'm not being lazy, just want to know the easiest way to get there - never done this journey before and don't want to screw up! Taxi cost Lexington KY??
Does anyone know how much it would cost to travel about 20 or 30 miles by Taxi in Lexington, KY from the Airport??. I need to know the expensive and cheapest rate. Also any suggestions please let me know. Thank you. See you.

do a search for taxi's in Lex. it might have the rates posted. then with a little math, you can figure it out. or check the airport website. it may give an example of the fare cost to go to certain places nearby, such as $// to go downtown, $\\ to go uptown, $ -- to go to the next town, etc. if the airport website mentions a limousine service available and its name, contact them for the cost to go d/t in a limo. as an ex chauffeur, in my city, it was only about $3 difference than a taxi, but if it was rush hour and traffic was stopped, the meter wasn't. yet the limo charges were flat rates. same cost for within a zone, no matter how long. or if you want to be really frugal, is there an airport to the downtown hotels bus available? if so, it should only be a fraction of the cab fare. if you are flying in an out the same day, you may want to think of a rental car. the end cost may be cheaper than the return taxi fare. another option.

We were thinking about traveling to Lexington KY or Louisville KY for about 5 days in early August. Anyone vacationed there? What are some fun things to do, both indoors and outdoors? Are there any nice resorts to stay in, or even like a cabin rental place that would be kid-friendly?

In Louisville there is the Louisville Zoo (with a new baby elephant), Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom (with a water park), Louisville Slugger Museum, Louisville Science Center, Churchill Downs & The Kentucky Derby Museum, Gheens Science Hall & Rauch Planetarium, Frazier International History Museum, the Belle of Louisville steamship, and the historic homes of Farmington, Locust Grove, and the Thomas Edison House. 25 miles south of the city is Bernheim Arboretum & Research Forest. The Kentucky Horse Park just north of Lexington could be a day trip since it is 75 miles east of Louisville. Some Louisville August events include the Kentucky Bluegrass Music Festival on the 3rd & 4th, and the State Fair from the 16th to the 26th. As far as a kid-friendly place to stay, there is a hotel 15 miles south of the city that has a small waterpark inside. There is also Butler State Resort Park 50 miles northeast of the city.

How much would it cost, round trip for 2 adults from Lexington, Ky to Lismore, Australia cost?
I've never travelled through plane before, never had to look up info...Lismore does have an airport, but I don't think they fly international. I need the closest city to Lismore.

If you are coming to Lismore NSW you are best to head to the coolangatta/gold coast airport, or brisbane airport. look on webjet.com.au they compare most airlines. Coolangatta/Gold coast is the closest to Lismore and Brisbane is about 3 hours north of Lismore. Make sure you line up transport from the airport to lismore, the bus service to lismore is very limited. If you are going to Lismore Victoria, I'm not to sure maybe Melbourne

For a Middle-Aged Man who is not scared of bad neighborhoods. My company pays me $65 night travel - sometimes I find hotels for $85/wk - cha-ching! First time extended stay in Lexington - Can anyone help me out with cheap slum-hotel info.

Do backstrech workers live on premises @ the track and do they travel like gypsies to various meets?
My friend wants to get a job in Kentucky working with the horses , as unskilled labor. They have tracks in Cincinnatti, Lexington, and Louisville.But none are open all year round. Do workers go from track to track and live on the premisis? Are you working directly for the trainers or is it the racing industry who employs you? Is it a gypsy or circus like existence? Any input would be appreciated.

you work for a trainer, and they still live on the backside, some tracks have put in apartments, but some still live in 5th wheels next to the barns. but they have come a long way.

Many still live in housing provided on the various backstretches and on those circuits that do not race year round you do get up and move. It is a seven day a week job although some trainers who are the individuals that employ you do give 1 day off a week. Since your friend is unskilled the most probable job he will be able to obtain is that of a hotwalker. Various tasks can and will include cooling down by walking 4-6 horses a morning, walking on average anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the workout, hosing legs, sitting with horses in an ice or foot tub, holding for the blacksmith, raking up the stable area, helping grooms with mucksacks and then coming back in the afternoon to walk one running in a race. Pay varies from trainer to trainer and often afternoon work pays money in addition to the base salary. While hotwalking your friend can learn the tasks that will enable him to start grooming at some point which has a whole nother set of tasks and is a better paying job. Put bluntly the race track is not for the faint of heart, for some who like to bet it is a way to be close to the action, for some it is the only thing they know how to do, for some be they uneducated or educated it is a labor of love because the pay isn't great. He can't be afraid of the horses though or it will never work out. It is a bit of a gypsy life and as hard as you work there is a sort of freedom to it that makes it unique.

Now before I moved to Chicago I did a lot of traveling from track to track and spent my share living a month or more in dorm rooms or tack rooms whatever the track offered cause it was cheap as it is free housing for the back stretch worker ( the trainer might have to put up a deposit fee). I grew up on the track and have been a trainer myself for 20 years. The backside is a completely different world! I'm not saying it is neccessarily bad, just different. As the other girl said, it is not for the faint of heart. Nor the naive. The backside is like a small town, there are different cliques and everyone knows everyone elses' business. On the other hand, the are like a family, they tend to to care of their own. The beginning of every meet is like a family reunion. All backside workers work for an individual trainer. And the trainer usually has a circuit they stick to. I ran the Ohio, Kentucky tracks and then would go to Florida for the winter. Then it was Texas, Oklahoma and Louisianna. Now I run from the farm and ship in. Trainers go where their horses can run and the money is right. I think all tracks now have accomodations for backside workers, but they vary from track to track. Trainers get rooms like they do stalls, based on the number of horses turned in to the Racing Secretary at the track and it is first come first serve. Every trainer I've known takes care of their employees one way or another. If your friend does not already have a job lead, he/she can go to the stable gate and ask them to call over PA for anyone needing a hotwalker or a groom. Once your friend has found a trainer that needs help, he/she will need a license. The trainer will take care of that and most times will pay for it. It is a 7 day a week job and you have to love what you do in order to do it. No matter what position your friend gets, it will be 100% physical labor. Most of the work is done in the morning unless you are running one and then you're there for the duration. If the Boss doesn't mind, you can pick up extra money walking a horse over in the afternoon/evening for other trainers. Another option for your friend is finding a farm job. I'm from Cincinnati and I know there are multitudes of farms on both sides of the river. That would allow he/she to get a little experience working with racehorses and a little taste of the environment he/she is wanting to work in. It is a colorful and different world and is not for everyone. But those of us who do it, day in and day out, year after year, wouldn't do anything else!

Where to buy a NEW gun for the best price? Nashville, TN. Lexington, KY. NKY?
I am planning on buying either a Browning Silver Hunter or a Remington 11-87. I might possibly get a Browning Gold in i found one cheap enough (There is a $100 rebate for them on Browning's website). Walmart is decently priced but not all of them carry guns anymore. I am constantly traveling between Nashville, Lexington, and Northern KY (a state on its own). I currently call Nashville home though so any Gun shops here would be great. Are Bass Pro and Dicks shotguns priced well? Also i have heard sports authority sells them. Thanks all! Any opinions on the differences between the guns would be appreciated also!

WalMart is cheapest, they can order it if it isn't in stock. I would buy the Remington but both are nice weapons.

I agree that Wal Mart is usually the low cost leader. However, keep in mind the sales tax in Tennesee is 9.75%!!!! That is huge. Head into Kentucky and it goes down to 4% (unless it has changed recently.) I don't know much about Northern KY. I have a home in Owensboro. It is 2 hours from Nashville. Near the Evansville, Indiana border. I fully recomend Whitakers Gun Shop. It is 20 minutes out of Owensboro. It is in a small town called West Louisville. I have bought many guns from Mr. Whitaker. His service and prices are unbeatable. he has a huge inventory. And knowledgeable family members in the shop. I don't even price shop when buying a gun these days. I just go to whitakers and buy it. I have never been disapointed. Just remember, if you are not a KY state resident, you will have to transfer it to a dealer in TN. That may tack on $25 bucks. depends on the dealer you work with. I prefer to work with local gun shops and not oversized retailers. Just my personal opinion. As previously stated, both guns are fine implements. I doubt you would be disapointed with either. I will offer another option to consider. The Benelli Super Black Eagles are the best in my opinion. I have both the SBE and 11-87. The SBE is more money, but ohhhh, so worth it. I am a lefty, and really appreciate the effort benelli put into designing a great gun for us left handed shooters. Best regards. Shoot safely.

About What's the best travel route from NC to Cincinnati, OH
What's the best travel route from NC to Cincinnati, OH?
I've traveled from NC (Raleigh-Durham area) to Cincinnati before, but every driving direction website has me going on these random small roads in Ohio. Does anyone know if it's quicker to go another way, possibly through Knoxville or Lexington?

We were going to drive from Cincinnati to Raleigh on President's Day weekend but ended up flying. Due to the flight delay, we probably would have gotten to Raleigh faster if we drove. When we looked at things on the map, it looked as though if you go on I-77 across to Winston-Salem and then drive north to Virginia and cut through West Virginia and into Kentucky and then up to Ohio, it would be better. The other option is to go through Knoxville. I think the first method of driving through Lexington was how my friend used to drive when she went to visit her brother at Duke. You can always go to mapquest and see what directions they give or go to a AAA place and get some maps. Also the path you take can depend on how adventurous you want to be. If you have not been to Tennessee, you can take that path. If you are in a hurry, then the first method should be better.

The by-ways through that part of Ohio is faster than taking the interstate through Tennessee. My family made that trip many times when I was a kid (Durham to Cincinnati), and we tried going both ways. In Huntington, WV, you should get off of the freweay and hop onto US 52. You can take that all the way into Cincinnati, or you can get onto OH St Rt 125 in Friendship (just west of Portsmouth). 52 and 125 will both take you into Cincinnati (almost to the same area too), but 125 is more direct and it has more 4 lane road. If you want to save a minute or two here and there, follow all of the directions that mapquest gives. But taking US 52 in Huntington, then getting onto OH St Rt 125 is quite a bit easier and a lot less random. You will save about an hour taking those by-ways versus going through Tennessee and Kentucky. It is also a much more pleasant drive.

I personally have done it both ways, and it ends up taking a decent bit less time doing it on the back roads. Remember- these are back roads, and except when you hit the center of the fedw small towns you'll pass through, you're generally moving along at 55 MPH (if you're not speeding). Its hard to justify going 100 miles out of your way, each way, to go an additional 10 miles an hour (it would take you 10 continuous hours of driving to make up the difference, and you'd use an additional 3-4 gallons of gas- which, if it makes you have to fill up sooner, could end up making it take even longer using the fast route). You can take I75 straight up to Cincy fom knoxville though, if thats how you really want to do it.

The by-ways through that part of Ohio is faster than taking the interstate through Tennessee. My family made that trip many times when I was a kid (Durham to Cincinnati), and we tried going both ways. In Huntington, WV, you should get off of the freweay and hop onto US 52. You can take that all the way into Cincinnati, or you can get onto OH St Rt 125 in Friendship (just west of Portsmouth). 52 and 125 will both take you into Cincinnati (almost to the same area too), but 125 is more direct and it has more 4 lane road. If you want to save a minute or two here and there, follow all of the directions that mapquest gives. But taking US 52 in Huntington, then getting onto OH St Rt 125 is quite a bit easier and a lot less random. You will save about an hour taking those by-ways versus going through Tennessee and Kentucky. It is also a much more pleasant drive.

I personally have done it both ways, and it ends up taking a decent bit less time doing it on the back roads. Remember- these are back roads, and except when you hit the center of the fedw small towns you'll pass through, you're generally moving along at 55 MPH (if you're not speeding). Its hard to justify going 100 miles out of your way, each way, to go an additional 10 miles an hour (it would take you 10 continuous hours of driving to make up the difference, and you'd use an additional 3-4 gallons of gas- which, if it makes you have to fill up sooner, could end up making it take even longer using the fast route). You can take I75 straight up to Cincy fom knoxville though, if thats how you really want to do it.

About What is the cheapest way to travel
What is the cheapest way to travel?
From Washington Dc, to Lexington Kentucky? Greyhound? Train? It doesn't necessarily have to be from Dc to Lexington, anywhere in a 30 mile radius from the destination or the origin to find transportation would be just fine...I just need to find the cheapest way to get a round ticket :P Thanks. I dont have a car

cruse if you have a group off people you can get a special on that plus everything is covered once you pay drinks food everything plus the cruse makes stops so you can get off look around so even better if you travel by boat all you need is a passport card that comes out to a total of 30 bucks cheaper then a passport book but if its your first time getting a passport your looking at 55 bucks at the end totally worth it I myself is going to take a cruse and we are taking a trip to Jamaica, Miami, Cancun, and a few more places for only 460 a person for 7 days all i can say is you cant beat that

What's the best/relatively cheap way to travel to Kentucky?
I'm trying to figure out a relatively cheap way to get to Lexington, Kentucky, from New Jersey. From what I've found, flying will cost me over $300, the Greyhound bus takes about 24 hours, which is too long, and Amtrak doesn't go to Lexington. It's an 11 hour drive, and I don't think my car can handle it. Any one have any ideas? Such as another train or bus system I might be able to transfer to when I get to Kentucky?
